An independent, Texas-based oil and gas exploration company with a global reach, Petron brings a focused approach to developing unconventional resources with minimal risk to our investors or venture partners. The results are well-researched, expertly planned and flawlessly executed projects that are operationally successful and financially rewarding.
Petron was founded in 2006 to develop unconventional resource projects in North America and internationally. We target reserves and leasehold positions that consist primarily of unconventional natural gas in the following forms:
- Coalbed methane (CBM) — a natural gas that exists in coal seams and is created during coalification, the natural process that converts organic matter into coal. A subcategory of CBM is coal mine methane (CMM), which represents lower quality gas produced from abandoned underground coal mines.
- Tight gas — a natural gas produced from sandstone or limestone formations that typically have low porosity and low permeability. Tight gas sands are also found in shallow offshore waters.
- Shale gas — natural gas produced from naturally fractured
and artificially fractured black organic-rich shale formations, primarily Devonian
and Cretaceous in age, which are non-permeable rock or clay.
- Unconventional resource plays typically have higher development success rates and cover significantly greater areas than conventional oil and gas plays, reducing geological and commercial development risk and potentially related costs.
- Our strategy is to develop these plays with a limited capital requirement through third-party financing or joint venture developments. Our business model is to participate as an equity owner in projects through the contribution of our technical capabilities and expertise in developing and managing projects. Because of our own financial interest in projects, we have more at stake and are committed to their success.
- We work with investors or venture partners in a variety of ways to maximize your investment and successfully develop resources. Our projects range from the operation and management of assets to enhance current production and develop new reserves, to providing technical services and management on projects, to acquiring assets for new drilling campaigns.
